1938 Casey Stengel Boston Bees Game Worn Jersey

1938 Casey Stengel Boston Bees Game Worn Jersey

While he did enjoy some success as a player in his 14-year Major League career, Casey Stengel was best known for his work on the bench. His managerial career of 25 years encompassed over 3,700 games and 1,900 career wins, most of them for the New York Yankees, with whom he won 10 pennants and seven World Championships. This heavy-weight, flannel home jersey, worn by "The Old Perfesser" himself, represents the upper tier of equipment collecting. It dates from the early stages of his tenure with the Boston Bees, which lasted from 1938-43 (the team name changed to the Boston Braves for the 1941 season). Not only is this style very, very rare, we have here a jersey that was worn by a respected Hall of Famer with a storied career. The jersey has been in one family for the last 70 years. It was acquired by a young man who was trying out for professional baseball. He was given this jersey to wear and kept it. It is all original and in great shape, and has a few minor moth holes with the largest being the size of a dime on the left sleeve. There is a Horace Partridge Co. tag in the collar along with "Stengel" sewn in script on a swatch of felt. Large "B" on the lest breast is blue on yellow felt and number 31 on the back is the same blue on yellow felt. The cut of the yellow felt gives the number a three dimensional effect. The jersey is in excellent condition and would be a worthy centerpiece to the collection of any fan of America's Pastime.
