1939-41 Claire Ruth N.Y. State Income Tax Returns (3)

1939-41 Claire Ruth N.Y. State Income Tax Returns (3)

Official duplicates of Claire Ruth's New York State Income Tax returns form 1939, 1940 and 1941, in the hand of Joe Bihler, Babe Ruth and agent Christy Walsh's right-hand man. Claire Ruth the Babe's wife, it seemed, worked for the Babe, yet her salary varied greatly - from $5,000 (1939) to $3,600 (1940) to $3,000 (1941). We guess the Babe was unhappy with her performance over time. She acted as "secretary" to Ruth and "business advisor" to Christy Walsh. Whatever else she was, the IRS later disavowed these deductions, but Ruth protested in 1942. Seriously, Claire had a wonderful effect on the Babe, settling him down and helping get his affairs in order. She stayed with him 'til the day he died. Who can blame her? From the estate of Joe Bihler, the right hand man of Babe Ruth's agent Christy Walsh and in turn Ruth himself.
