1940 Ben Hogan Artwork by Burris Jenkins, Jr. (19.5x22.5")
The commanding presence of Ben Hogan, in his trademark white cap , striking the ball like no other golfer has struck it before or since. From 1940, this piece relates to the upcoming Goodall Round Robin tournament to be played in America with competing players from the British Isles. The event was staged to “replace” the Ryder Cup, cancelled by the war in Europe. This is a beautifully conceived work of art. Hogan’s swing kicks up a cloud of dust in which are pictured mini-portraits of the great golfers vying with Bantam Ben. Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Walter Hagen and Johnny Farrell are all present and accounted for. The tree line is actually die-cut to add a greater sense of depth to the fairway. A masterpiece from a master. Who won the round robin? You’re looking at him. NRMT condition.
