1940 Josh Gibson In Venezuela Photo (2.5" x 3.5")

1940 Josh Gibson In Venezuela Photo (2.5" x 3.5")

Offered is what may be the most rare of all Josh Gibson photos. In 1940, the HOF catcher, aka The Black Babe Ruth, jumped from the Negro League to play in Venezuela for the Maricaibo baseball club. The Centauros team was loaded with hired guns assembled for the sole purpose of capturing the Venezuela Professional Baseball League crown. This international team of all-stars was disbanded by mid season, though, after the owners could not afford to maintain the extraordinary payroll. Offered is a photo of Gibson taken during that time, the very photo that was used to make the 2005 Panini sticker of Gibson, in uniform and holding his mitt and two bats. Photo is EX with one wrinkle at the top right corner and a minor pencil mark on the reverse. Measures 2.5" x 3.5".
