1940 Scrapbook with Great Negro League Content Including A Royal Giants Scorecard
The Negro Leagues were at their peak in the 1940s, and this string-tied, 8.5" x 11.5" scrapbook includes 37 pages of semipro game clippings, box scores, league membership tables, etc. from the 1940 season with markings handwritten in black ink. The blue scorecard from a game between the Royal Giants and Red Bank Pirates is one page of heavy stock with a crease to make for easy scoring. Partially scored in pencil, it is EX in condition other than a crease across the center. There is a card inside detailing the contents of the scrapbook, which was compiled by a player on the Red Bank club in New Jersey. There are many blank pages in the back. Some pages are loose, and most are tomes with some edge wear. Otherwise, it is in VG condition. Most of the clippings come from the Red Bank Register. A fascinating peek into pre-integration baseball culture.
