1940’s Babe Ruth Signed Bat (35”)
It has been estimated that the Babe signed a million autographs during his lifetime. But the number of authentic signed bats with provenance in this condition can be counted on one hand. Inscription was signed in the 1940s when bats thankfully were lighter in color (in fact, the most desired Babe Ruth single signed baseballs were also signed during this period). Penned, “To My friend William A. Gleason from Babe Ruth”. The autograph in boldest blue ink is thick, slightly bled from quality of finish used on the wood. Most importantly, it exhibits near perfect contrast, the thing that makes this bat of a “10” variety. Light scratch that runs through the inscription is slight and unimportant. Overall the condition of the signature is a conservative 8/10 with the brilliant contrast which makes this one of the finest signed Ruth bats extant. Bat itself is a 35” Louisville Slugger 125 BR. This bat was signed for William Gleason himself and was obtained from a relative.
