1941 Lou Gehrig Memorial July 4th Ticket Stubs (2)

1941 Lou Gehrig Memorial July 4th Ticket Stubs (2)

Just one month after succumbing to the disease that would ultimately bear his name, baseball great Lou Gehrig was memorialized on the same Yankee Stadium field where he excelled as one of the game's greatest talents. These two ticket stubs - representing adjacent seats - are from that service on July 4, 1941 and were obtained directly from a man who attended the non-game event. There is tape residue on both but the tickets display very well. It had been two years to the day that the "Iron Horse" had delivered his famous farewell speech, humbly referring to himself as "the luckiest man on the face of the earth."
