1947 Babe Ruth Day Multi-Signed Baseball (PSA & SGC)

1947 Babe Ruth Day Multi-Signed Baseball (PSA & SGC)

The most famous player in baseball history formally thanked the public at Yankee Stadium on April 27, 1947, during a ceremony known as Babe Ruth Day. This Official League Harwood baseball was signed that day by "The Bambino," as well as Ted Williams, Rabbit Maranville and Dom DiMaggio (extremely faint). A large Ruth signature distinguishes the sweet spot, and rates 6.5/10. Maranville and period signature Ted Williams appear on the north panel, with Dom DiMaggio's signature on the east panel. The historic ball is in NM condition. Babe Ruth Day was the brainchild of then-baseball commissioner Happy Chandler, who was well aware of Ruth's rapidly deteriorating health. The slugger had been long retired and out of the public spotlight, and his heartfelt, gravely-voiced speech was piped in to Major League stadiums across the country - a rarity at that time. In all, 59,339 people packed the house that he "built," on a chilly, non-game day, and saw a weakened, gray-haired former superstar who spoke humbly, never mentioning one of his myriad titanic achievements. Comes with SGC and PSA LOAs.
