1947 Sam Bankhead Signed Baseball Contract
True Negro League baseball royalty is on display here as Sam Bankhead represented one-fifth of a uniquely talented family along with brothers Joe, Fred and Garnett, all of whom dominated like no others in the Negro Leagues. Brother Dan also played in the majors later on. Featuring the signature "Samuel Bankhead," this contract was issued by the Caguas-Guayana of the Puerto Rican League. The first black coach in minor league baseball and a member of the immortal 1937 Trujillo team was being paid a paltry $75 as per this pact.
