1948-49 Toleteros Quincy Trouppe SGC 40 VG 3
Offered here is a 1948-49 Toleteros Quincy Trouppe SGC 40 VG 3. This card will make an excellent addition to any advanced Negro League collection. To accurately explain the rarity of this card is nearly impossible, however, consider that among all of the Toleteros cards in this auction, it is the only individual 1948-49 Toleteros card being offered. Does anyone really know how many of this card exists? One could safely say it is probably less than 20. Trouppe was an intelligent catcher and a superior handler of pitchers. He was a switch hitter known for using a very heavy bat. He appeared in five all-star games for the Western squad. In 1952 he was called up to the major leagues and played briefly with the Cleveland Indians. His lifetime average in the Negro Leagues was a very respectable .311. After retiring from baseball he became a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals. This example is graded VG because it has a light wrinkle passing through Trouppe's forehead and has corner wear consistent with the standards for this grade.
