1948 "Babe Bows Out" Signed by Nat Fein - from Original Negative

1948 "Babe Bows Out" Signed by Nat Fein - from Original Negative

The Pulitzer Prize winning 11x14" silver gelatin photo, "The Babe Bows Out" taken by noted photographer Nat Fein (1914-2000). A haunting, behind-the-back image captures Ruth in solitude during his final appearance at Yankee Stadium on June 13, 1948. Signed by Nat Fein in black marker, this extraordinary print from the original negative was obtained from the photographer in the 1980s. The single most important sports photograph of all time, it is featured in both the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian. Of all the talented photographers there that day, only Nat Fein of the New York Herald Tribune captured his essence and the moment. Seeing the importance of his #3 (which was being retired that day), he daringly broke one of the fundamental rules of photography by not showing the Bambino's face. "Babe Bows Out" became the first sports photograph to earn a Pulitzer. Mint condition with flawless contrast, matted and framed to 18x15", it comes with Letter of Authenticity from the Nat Fein Estate. The gravely-ill Babe passed away just two months later, leaving a void on not just sports, but in the world overall.
