1949-50 Bill Barilko Contract with Toronto Maple Leafs
The 1951 Stanley Cup Finals pitted The Toronto Maple Leafs against their arch rivals, the Canadiens. In search of their third Cup in a row (true Hat Trick), the Leafs took a three games to one lead into game 5. All the previous games went to overtime and this was to be no different. At 2:59 of the first overtime period, hard hitting, low scoring young defenseman Bill Barilko took a pass at the point from Howie Meeker and uncharacteristically darted toward the net lifting a wrist shot over Gerry McNeil's right shoulder. In the process, he was hit by a Hab defender and went airborne to beat Bobby Orr to a dramatic "Flying Goal". Game over, the Leafs win the '51 Cup, but tragedy loomed just a few months later as Bill Barilko was lost in a plane crash. His remains were not found until 1962, ironically, the next year the Leafs won the Cup. His young career dashed after only four years, we present his Leafs contract from that 1949-50 season. In pristine condition, this official NHL contract bears the signatures of Bashin' Bill and Conn Smythe, the Leafs' President. His pay for that season was $8,000. Comes with Mission Cap card depicting this historic goal. Original 6 hockey lore at it's finest.
