Johnny Bucyk’s 1977-78 Boston Bruins Player’s Contract And Termination Agreement
After two decades of meritorious service to the Bruins, Johnny Bucyk returned for one final season in 1977-78 and on September 15, 1977 signed both this, his final NHL contract for $85,000, and a league termination agreement stipulating that the team would release him on June 1, 1978. This was only logical, since Bucyk would turn 42 during the season and the Bruins wanted to accommodate a guy who’d scored over 550 goals and 800 points while making it clear they had no further obligation. The Boston Garden crowd favorite signed both in black ink, with Bruins Managing Director Harry Sinden adding his marker in blue. Contract is also signed by NHL proxy John Ziegler and witness Dale Hamilton. Addendum of bonus clauses also signed by Bucyk, Sinden and Hamilton. All signatures NRMT. Contract VG with folding and light soiling, termination agreement NRMT. Each document has two binding holes at the top.
