1950's Cincinnati Reds "Gibbs-Conner" Promotional Two Foot Tall Statue
With its toothy grin, black mustache, and bright eyes, this ceramic statue is one-of-a-kind. Originally called the "Cincinnati Red Stockings," the Cincinnati Reds were baseball's first professional team, joining the National League back in 1890. So far they've won the World Series in 1919, '40, '75, '76, and '90. This cheeky statue measures a whopping 24" tall and was designed as a "point of sale" merchandiser to promote the smaller "Gibbs-Conner" items. This line was never sold to the general public and only a handful of pieces are known to exist. A magnificent-looking Reds mascot holds a baseball bat in one hand and stands on a base. It has a large embossed "C" on the chest and the bat contains the company "GC" initials on the barrel. Baseball-headed statue is glazed and shines in red, white, black, and grey colors. Small crack in ceramic behind the statue's right leg, but otherwise great condition. 2 foot tall statue is special and rare, like an inside-the-park grand slam.
