1950-51 Bill Barilko Signed NHL Contract
A sprawling Bill Barilko netted the overtime game winner that captured the Stanley Cup for the Leafs at the close of the 1950-51 season. Barilko would never play another game as he disappeared soon after while on a fishing trip. As the story of the Barilko curse goes, the team did not win another championship until 1962, the year Bill’s body was discovered in the wreckage of his airplane. This NHL Standard Player’s Contract has been filled out and signed inside by “William Barilko” and Leafs’ GM Conn Smythe (dec. HOF). Although not endorsed by the league, the document has the added pencil notation “re-signed Sept 25, 1950”. This significant contract outlines the agreement for Barilko’s final incredible, ill-fated season. A scarce and highly-prized signature from the subject of hockey’s most intriguing story. In near mint condition.
