1951 Boston Red Sox Golden Anniversary Lapel Pin Presented to Billy Sullivan
This is a 1951 Boston Red Sox American League Golden Anniversary lapel pin created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Red Sox franchise as one of the eight original American League teams. In 1951 it was presented to Billy Sullivan, the first catcher for the Chicago White Sox and the inventor of the chest protector. This 10K gold filled pin features an eagle at the top with a baseball inset inscribed "Red Sox 1951" and a faux diamond. The baseball inset is surrounded by a blue enamel border with "Golden Anniversary" in gold lettering. The back of the pin is marked 1/10 10K GF Sterling. It looks as though there was a threaded post clasp on the back, but this has been replaced with a safety stick pin. The pin measures approximately 3/4" in diameter and has a charm loop at the top. Beautiful pin in EX condition.
