1955 NY Yankees Tour of Japan Player Ribbon

1955 NY Yankees Tour of Japan Player Ribbon

Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle were among a Yankees contingent that traveled to Japan after falling to the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1955 World Series. While over in Asia, this ribbon was presented to Bombers coach Jim Turner though it clearly reads "player" in Japanese next to his name. During the six-week trip, the Yankees actually hired a Japanese hall of Famer - Wakabayashi - with the purpose of integrating Japanese talent into the Yankees' system. A very forward-thinking move at the time.
