1957 World Series Pennant w/ Yankee Stadium
<p>Displayed is an attractive p<span style="font-size: 13px;">ennant that was sold only at the 1957 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves. The pennant includes images of the home stadia of each of the Series teams: Yankee Stadium in the Bronx in New York City and Milwaukee County Stadium. The Boston Braves moved to Milwaukee, into the newly constructed County Stadium, just before the 1953 season, and they broke the then National League attendance record by drawing 2.2 million. The original Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, <span style="font-size: small;">and it was the home of the Yankees through 2008, except for 1974-75 when it was being extensively remodeled. A New Yankee Stadium opened in 2009. </span>The <span style="font-size: 13px;">only flaws on the pennant are three very light pin holes at the corners and minor fading, otherwise its condition is EX-MT. </span>When the World Series began in 1957, the Yankees, skippered by Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel, had been in eight of the previous World Series, winning seven. The Braves took the '57 Series in seven games, and the MVP was Milwaukee right-hander Lew Burdette. The former Yankee was magnificent, winning three complete games, two of them shutouts, with a Series ERA of 0.67. Hank Aaron led the Braves' hitters by batting .393, with three homers, a triple, and seven RBIs. Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra had the highest Series batting average for the Yankees as he hit .320, with a home run. Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, the Yankees' ace, pitched well with a 1-1 record and an ERA of 2.57, but he couldn't match Burdette's brilliance. The pennant reads, "National League/ American League World Series 1957. The pennant is 29.5" long, and its </span><span style="font-size: 13px;">only flaws are three very light pin holes at the corners and minor fading, otherwise EX-MT. Although the Yankees went on to win the World Series in 1958, this pennant marks the end of an era as at least one of the three New York City team had been in every World Series between 1949 and 1957, and after this '57 season, two New York teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants, both moved to California.</span></p>
