1958, 1959 and 1960 Oscar Robertson UPI College Player of the Year Awards
Three certificates framed in this 16.5x35" display tell you everything you need to know about the college basketball career of Oscar Robertson. The certificates are for the three consecutive Player of the Year awards Robertson won while playing for the Cincinnati Bearcats from 1957 to 1960. It could have easily been four such honors, but the Big O was not allowed to play on the varsity team as a freshman. Despite missing an entire year, Robertson was still one of the most prolific players in the history of college basketball. He brought the Bearcats to national prominence almost single-handedly, and left school as the NCAA's all-time scoring leader. The first certificate reads, "United Press, College Basketball Player of the Year, 1958, Oscar Robertson, Cincinnati, Selected by United Press Sports Editors" and is signed by Leo Petersen, a United Press Sports Editor, in the bottom right corner. The only difference between the first and the other two is that the United Press became the United Press International in subsequent versions, and of course the years change as well. All three certificates are framed and matted, and they appear to be in EX condition. The extraordinary legacy of Robertson's college career prompted the USBWA to rename their Player of the Year award the Oscar Robertson Trophy in 1998.
