1959 Oklahoma Sooners Big 8 Champs Ring & Orange Bowl Program
This ring originally belonged to a player from the University of Oklahoma who started with the team for three years. The ring is a size 12.5, and is made of 10K gold (stamp is on the inside). The initials "J.J.T." have been engraved on the inside of the ring, along with a Balfour stamp. A single ruby decorates the center of the ring. single ruby decorates the center of the ring. Around the ruby it reads, "The University of Oklahoma 1892". One side of the ring says, "Orange Bowl 1959" while another side reads, "Big 8 Champs 1958". There is a small raised gold football on each side of the ring, as well. On January 1, 1959, in Miami Florida, waiving the “no repeat rule” because of a new bowl contract, the Oklahoma Sooners played in their second consecutive Orange Bowl, defeating the Orangemen from Syracuse, 21-6. The Sooners were led by Prentice Gautt who scored the game’s first touchdown on the second play of the game with a 42-yard run. It was the Sooners’ fourth straight Orange Bowl victory. Oklahoma ended the season ranked fifth in the nation, with its only loss a one-pointer to Texas. The ring comes with a 25th Silver Anniversary Annual Orange Bowl Classic program. A silver metallic cover decorates the program, with oranges covering the bottom front cover of the program. Ring is graded NM. LOA.
