1959 Topps Baseball Set (572)
Missing only #350 Ernie Banks for completion. With all due respect to those octogenarians of the Ruth, Gehrig and Foxx days, the 1950’s were the Golden Age of baseball. Power abounded with veterans Mantle, Mays, Aaron and Snider pounding homers by the bushel with newcomers Brooks and Frank Robinson, Clemente and Killebrew just beginning their HOF careers. The pitching wasn’t bad either, with a guy named Koufax starting to get his wildness under control. The rookie crop in 1959 is short, but sweet, highlighted by a former Harlem Globetrotter named Bob Gibson (one of the first two sport stars?). It is only fitting that Gibson’s rookie is PSA graded N\M-MT 8. Includes: #10 Mantle (EX, light chip in red background), 20 Snider (NRMT), 40 Spahn (EX-MT), 50 Mays (EX-MT), 150 Musial (VG), 163 Koufax (EX-MT), 180 Berra (EX-MT), 202 Maris (NM-MT, 80/20), 212 Aaron/Mathews (EX-MT), 317 Ashburn/Mays (EX-MT), 338 Anderson (EX-MT), 360 Kaline (EX-MT), 380 Aaron (EX), 387 Drysdale (NRMT), 430 Ford (EX), 435 F. Robinson (VG-EX), 439 B. Robinson (EX), 461 Mantle HR (EX-MT), 478 Clemente (EX-MT), 509 Cash (EX-MT), 510 Yankees (VG-EX), 514 Gibson (PSA 8), 515 Killebrew (NRMT), 528 Pirates (VG-EX), 543 Corsair Trio (EX), 550 Campanella (VG), 559 Banks AS (EX), 561 Aaron AS (NRMT), 562 Kaline AS (NRMT), 563 Mays AS (NRMT), 564 Mantle AS (VG-EX), and 571 Spahn AS (EX-MT). Grades 40% NRMT or better, 50% EX to EX-MT, 10% VG to VG-EX.
