1960 Pirates Team Signed Ball with Clemente

1960 Pirates Team Signed Ball with Clemente

They still gather every October 13th on the site of what used to be Forbes Field to toast the Pirates’ unlikely victory over the mighty Yankees in the 1960 World Series -- which wasn’t so much a series of games as a parable of blue-collar versus white collar, lunchbucket versus expense account, with the underdog Pirates getting blasted in 3 games but hanging in and winning the nail-biters and in the end the whole enchilada. Thus this ONL (Giles) ball signed by 31 members of the Bucs is worth its weight in memories and dreams for Steel Town fans. Signatures include that of hero Bill Mazeroski, who ended it all with one swing in Game 7, as well as the hero to end all heroes, Roberto Clemente. Joining those 2 HOFers are manager Danny Murtaugh (clubhouse), Smoky Burgess, Harvey Haddix, Don Hoak, Elroy Face, Bob Friend, Rocky Nelson, Dick Groat, Vern Law, Bob Skinner, Bobby Shantz, Vinegar Bend Mizell, etc. Signatures in blue ink average 8/10 while the ball is EX-MT with an even tan patina. Keep it away from oldtime Yankee fans. They might stain it with their tears.
