1963 Topps Baseball Set
This is not your typical 1963 Topps set; it was built primarily from vending or otherwise uncirculated cards. Purchased as an entire set by our consignor however some of the cards needed to be upgraded for centering and while most of the upgrading was done with PSA graded cards, many potential upgrades were passed on. The cards our consignor passed on may have been “technically” upgrades but did not possess the “vendor” look that the rest of the cards in the set have. Over time, many discriminating upgrades were made to bring us the set we are now auctioning. 52 cards have been graded NM-MT 8 and the highlights are as follows: #1 NL Batting Ldr, #2 AL Batting Ldr, #9 NL Strikeout Ldr, #120 Maris, #144 Maris HR, #200 Mantle, #210 Koufax, #275 Mathews, #412 Dodgers Big Three, #446 Ford, #470 Tresh, #473 Mets, #490 McCovey, #537 Rose, and #550 Snider. Eight cards have been graded NM-MT+ 8.5 and the highlights are as follows: #173 Bombers Best, #250 Musial, #300 Mays, #360 Drysdale, #472 Brock, and #553 Stargell. Five cards have been graded MINT 9 and they are as follows: #5 NL ERA Leaders, #80 Gilliam, #138 Pride of the NL, #390 Aaron, and #540 Clemente. Only about 20% of the cards in this set are EX-MT or lesser condition, mainly due to centering or print, and includes #68 Friendly Foes, #320 Spahn, #340 Berra, #415 Gibson, and #500. Most of the ungraded cards in this set are suitable candidates for grading. The SMR value on the graded cards alone is approximately $12,000 with loads of potential in the yet to be graded cards.
