1964 Jon Morris Boston Patriots AFL Game Worn Jersey
We don't begrudge the contemporary Pats their success, but Bill Belichick's team of cold, machine-like automatons can't touch the color and inspired chaos symbolized by this fabulous jersey worn by the great center Jon Morris in his rookie season of '64. Morris, who spurned the Green Bay Packers to play in the iffy AFL, was a 6-time All-Star and one of the best centers ever in the league -- he was named to the 2nd team of the All-Time AFL All-Time team. His -- and the jersey brings back rousing memories of the hardy souls who braved slop-covered Boston University field, such as Babe Parilli, Nick Buoniconti, Jim Nance, Houston Antwine, and jack of all trades Gino Cappelletti. Off white dureen jersey has "56" on the front and back, "Morris" above the back number, in pale red tackle twill. Elastic blue and red striped piping around shoulders. Tagging in crotch is "Rawlings [size] L", tags with a hand-written size "54" in red, and "Do Not Dry Clean" instructions, and an extra tag too worn to be read. All original. Great use with multiple team repairs most notably in several patchings on the numbers, a sign that early AFL jerseys were worn until they fell apart, and areas of soiling and sweat stains. Like the old AFL, and the Pats, the jersey took its hits but was in the pit every Sunday looking for more. Few better vintage AFL jerseys can be found.
