1968 Jackie Robinson Signed Check (PSA)

1968 Jackie Robinson Signed Check (PSA)

Jackie Robinson broke the modern Major League "Color Line" in 1947 when he made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers and became the National League's Rookie of the Year, as he helped Brooklyn to the 1947 pennant. Robinson was a 7-time All-Star and was the National League's MVP in 1949 when he led the NL in batting at .342 and in stolen bases, with 37. Jackie also helped the Brooklyn Dodgers to their only World Championship, in 1955. His breaking of the race barrier in 1947 is sometimes considered as the foremost civil rights achievement in American history. Yet, it took 15 more seasons for Major league baseball to have its first African American coach (Buck O'Neil for the 1962 Chicago Cubs) and 13 more years before Frank Robinson became the Major League's first African American manager in 1975, three years after Jackie Robinson's death. The offered check is drawn on the Royal National Bank of New York, and the check is in the amount of two hundred fifteen dollars and 80 cents ($215.80). The checking account is under the names of Jack R. Robinson and Rachel A. Robinson, and the Robinsons' address is listed on the check as Cascade Road/Stamford, Conn." The check (measuring 2.75x6.2") is payable to the Zumbach Motor Repair Co. Jackie signed his name as "Jack R. Robinson," in blue ink. The cashed check is in excellent condition, and it has been encapsulated and PSA graded "AUTHENTIC AUTO." Robinson's signature, as a Hall of Fame ballplayer who changed American history when he broke of the Major League segregation barrier, has substantial enduring value and importance.
