1970 Baltimore Colts Super Bowl Champions Salesman Sample Ring (10K)
Displayed is a stunning 1970 salesman's ring for that season's Super Bowl winning Baltimore Colts. The Colts were in the team's 18th year in the NFL. Coached by Don McCafferty, and quarterbacked by Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas, the Colts had an 11-2-1 regular season record. The Colts defeated the Cincinnati Bengals and the Oakland Raiders to reach Super Bowl V, where Baltimore defeated the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 on Jan. 17, 1971 at the Orange Bowl, in Miami. In a strange game that included 11 turnovers, 7 by the Colts and 4 by the Cowboys, the Colts scored early on a twice-tipped 75-yard pass from Unitas to Hall of Famer John Mackey, and Baltimore won the game on a 32-yard field goal by Jim O'Brien with five seconds left in the game. On one prong of the sample ring is "GEN KLOSTERMAN MGR," for Don Klosterman, the general manager of the Colts. That prong also has an image of a Colts' helmet and the score of the game, "Colts 16 Cowboys 13." The other prong shows an image of the Super Bowl Trophy and reads, "1970 Super Bowl V." The face of the ring reads, "Baltimore Colts World Champions." The ring is size 10.5. The inside of the ring band is stamped Jostens (c) 10k. A simulated diamond is in the center of the face, within the image of a horseshoe, and does not test as real. The salesman's ring makes a great remembrance of the first Baltimore Super Bowl victory and the franchise's third NFL Championship.
