1978-79 Mark Messier Cincinnati Stingers Rookie Contract
Mark Messier’s indelible mark on professional hockey started when he penned his signature on this document. In this original file folder (complete with a typed label reading “MESSIER, MARK”) we have his rookie contract and a letter from the Stingers to Ron Ryan at the WHA. The letter requests that Ryan approve the contracts and return two of the three copies (one of which is in this lot). The standard WHA contract has all the original initials (five by Messier) and signatures. Following the contract is an addendum which also contains Messier’s signature as well as a Stingers official and two witnesses. This is a chance to own the contract that let loose an incredible leader and truly tough player on professional hockey. Don’t miss it.
