1979 Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 10 Year Contract
Gretzky and greatness weren’t just synonymous. Wayne’s world on hockey was so strong that it’s no surprise that most people consider him to be the greatest hockey player ever to lace up a pair of skates. You might say he had a contract to play well. You’d be right. And this is that contract. On his 18th birthday, Wayne Gretzky signed a contract with Edmonton Oilers’ owner Pocklington that was considered to be the longest player agreement in hockey history. This is The Great One’s Big One, and is one of the original contracts that was sent to the WHA offices. It’s a three-part agreement. Number 1) An Original WHA Players Contract. Signed by Wayne Gretzky, as well as L.D. Gordon, and Walter Gretzky (2). The agreement is initialed 14 times by Wayne Gretzky and Gordon. Part 2) is a contract addendum spelling out Wayne’s salaries for the next nine years. The agreement is between Wayne and Peter Pocklington and lasts through the 1986-87 season. Signed by Wayne Gretzky, L.D. Gordon and two witnesses. The third and final part (3) consists of a Memorandum of The Agreement. It is a copy signed by Gretzky and Pocklington. It spells out the yearly salaries, bonuses and other obligations by Gretzky and Pocklington. This is one of the most important hockey documents ever made available for acquisition. It is a piece of hockey, Edmonton, and Canadian history all rolled into one. EX condition with NRMT signatures. There’s a cut on the front page. Talk about rolling out the red carpet for the great one, this piece of hockey memorabilia is signed, sealed and now it’s ready to be delivered to you!
