Happy whale decals on the shoulders and a stick-slashed "W" logo sprouting fins on Jeff Brubaker's game-worn 1980 Hartford Whalers jersey. Silk numbers and letters are stressed and stained from many games and many spin cycles. The ventilated polyester also has a few holes, kind of like the ones the franchise left in the hearts of local fans when it left for Raleigh, N.C. The Minneapolis-based Good Sports label is intact, as are the separate size 52 and year 80 tags on the collar. Brubaker, a left wing who collected the occasional point and frequent penalty minutes, probably never wore a luckier color. But often in the franchise's history, it wasn't easy being green.
