1980 Pittsburgh Old Timers' Day Award Presented to Nellie King
Former Pirates pitcher and broadcaster Nellie King was presented with this display from the 1980 Old Timer's Day at Three Rivers Stadium. It includes a bronzed pillbox Pirates cap standing in the center between a clock and a light and everything resting on a heavy plank of pine. King signed in silver Sharpie next to the plaque at the base that bears his name, the stadium, event and date. What's interesting is that on the date listed - August 2, 1980 - the Pirates' game with the San Diego Padres was rained out and made up as part of a doubleheader the next day. So when this award was actually presented is something of a mystery. Everything is in EX condition. King pitched parts of four seasons with Pittsburgh (1954-57).
