1983 Derek Jeter Little League Collection Including Team Signed Baseball, Trophy & Team Photo
Now that he's officially retired, Derek Jeter has plenty of time to reminisce about his career. This mind-blowing lot is chock full of the future Hall of Famer's earliest artifacts. Chief among them is this baseball an eight-year-old Jeter signed with nine of his little league teammates back in 1981. The ball shows EX use and is signed in blue ballpoint pen. The bold Jeter signature grades 9/10 while the others average 8/9 out of 10. The trophy is NRMT and features the following wording on the base: "OAKWOOD LITTLE LEAGUE 1983 MINOR LEAGUE CHAMPS." The team photo is NRMT and reveals how much Derek grew in just one year. Also included is a program when Jeter returned for a reception after the 1996 World Series. This trophy was given to the team manager, and is a exactly like the one Derek would have received. The contents of this lot were acquired from the manager, Brown, so it is an impeccable provenance. Jeter - whose childhood dream to play shortstop for the New York Yankees was amazingly realized - was just a tyke when his parents signed him up for the Oakwood Little League in Kalamazoo, Michigan. That was the start of the storybook playing career that culminated in five World Series championships and a guaranteed plaque in Cooperstown.
