1988 Seoul Olympics Baseball Gold Medal Presented to Dave Silvestri
This Olympic Gold Medal previously belonged to Dave Silvestri, who played in the Olympics and MLB from 1992 thru 1999, most notably for the New York Yankees. The gold medal was presented to him for his achievement on Team USA at the Olympics in Seoul 1988, is in the original fitted royal blue velvet case, and is threaded with the original ribbon that was placed around his neck by the Olympic presentation committee (IOC). The gold piece has "XXIV Olympiad Seoul 1988" and has an embossed image of a cat with a baseball bat on the front, and a dove with the Olympic rings on the verso. It is a captivating piece and in beautiful original condition. Modern baseball was introduced as a demonstration event at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and in 1988, Team USA featured pitching sensation Jim Abbott in addition to Silvestri. Team USA got some revenge against Japan for the beating it suffered in the '84 games.
