1999 Pedro Martinez Cy Young Award Statue
On the Northeastern University campus in Boston stands a large bronze statue (christened in 1993) of Cy Young peering in at the catcher for his sign. It was just about on this very spot that Young played in the first ever World Series game on what was then known as the Huntington Avenue Grounds. On May 5, 1904, Young threw the first modern day perfect game. This replica plaster statue of the bronze one stands 13-1/2" and was given to Pedro Martinez for his winning the Cy Young in 1999. Plaque on the base (9 x 4-3/4") reads "Northeastern University Home of the First World Series 1903." Young's name is engraved above that. Martinez didn't want to keep it and left it behind in his Red Sox locker. Condition is NRMT.
