2001 Arizona Diamondbacks World Champions Ring and Presentation Box
It came down to a Game 7. The team with the grandest tradition in sports versus a franchise only in its fourth year of existence. The Diamondbacks were faced with the unenviable task of having to beat Mariano Rivera, the greatest relief pitcher in the history of baseball, bar none. Rivera had converted twenty-three straight postseason saves and had struck out the side in the eighth (with a 2-1 lead). Could it get any bleaker? As Luis Gonzalez stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees infield moved in to prevent base-runner Jay Bell from scoring. Rivera fed him a “perfect” pitch that was impossible to drive but the positional strategy failed as Gonzalez hit a tantalizingly weak ball that just cleared the infield in center, sending home the winning run and sealing the World Series title. The Diamondbacks had beaten Rivera and the big, bad Yankees. This 10 karat gold ring sports a face covered in genuine diamonds that surround an “A” carved out of blue stone. Around this bright as the sun display is “World Champions 2001.” On one shank is the Diamondbacks logo over the number “4” and the Yankees logo over the number “3”. In between is the World Series Trophy presented to Arizona. Beneath that is “World Series” and below that, “Tradition.” Other shank has “Colangelo 1st World Series Winners Teamwork” with a Diamondbacks “D” in the center. Stamping inside. Ring is size 11-3/4 prototype and comes with the original presentational box which by itself is a gorgeous wooden piece with a blue velvet interior that holds this most beautiful ring. Both the ring and box are NRMT.
