2002 Mario Lemieux NHL All-Star Game Issued Jersey

2002 Mario Lemieux NHL All-Star Game Issued Jersey

This is a handsome and immaculate All-Star jersey, more than likely un-used by Lemieux during the 2002 match up between North American players and (non-North American) World players. The last of this form of the mid-season competition as it would return to its traditional East vs. West format the following year. The World team beat North America, 8-5. Super Mario had to prematurely end his 2001-02 NHL season. He would retire roughly four years later in January 2006. This is one of four jerseys issued to Mario for the game and festivities prior to game, and, as stated, was likely worn for photo shoots or other non-game events. Dark navy blue sweater contains Canada flag tag with size 58 tag in collar, All-Star patch on right breast, Penguin logo on right shoulder and Canadian flag on left. Tackle-twilled “Lemieux” and his “66” appear on verso.
