4/15/62 Louis Armstrong ALS
Letter of condolence sent to his German friend Erich Kauffmann during a concert tour of that country. "I am so sorry that you lost your dear wife," he wrote. "She was a very nice lady. I prayed for her in my prayers. Too bad that she had to leave so soon." He then dispenses words of wisdom as only "Satchmo" could: "Don't make yourself an old man for no reason at all. You and me, we must stay around a long time." Written on stationery from the Atlantic Hotel in Hamburg. Signature is near-perfect. EX o/a, with original envelope.
