4/17/65 Louis Armstrong ALS

4/17/65 Louis Armstrong ALS

When Satchmo reached his 60s he began to ponder life and death. In this long and emotional letter written shortly after his historic tour behind the Iron Curtain, he begins: "Here I am sitting in my home in Corona on Easter Sunday night all by myself." He goes on to tell of his love for his wife Lucille and says, in what sounds like a blues refrain, "I don't want no misery," then, "Everyone should leave this earth last." He ends the letter, "God bless you, from your pal, Satchmo, Louis Armstrong." Signature is 8/10. 3 pages, light blue 7 x 10" stationery with a red "Satchmo" on each upper left corner. EX with slight fading. Original envelope which was returned postage due.
