Babe Ruth 1934 Tour of Japan Matchbox
Classic graphics of Babe Ruth similar to the poster from the 1934 Tour of Japan from Koshien Stadium in Osaka on the front. On verso is news of Electric Week, from November 20-26, which is sponsored by the Osaka Electrical Industrial Union. From the most famous tour, when Newspaper man Matsutara Shoriki decided to see just how popular and successful baseball could be with the Japanese population. In 1934, Connie Mack, the long-time manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, was asked to staff a team of some of the best players in major league baseball and bring them to Japan for an 18-game match-up against the Big-Six University League. Mack compiled an amazing roster of some of the best baseball talent in America, starring The Babe himself. The only matchbox known to exist, it measures 2.25x1.5" and the condition is EX-MT.
