Babe Ruth "A Face In The Crowd" Original Photograph
Babe Ruth, center, with a hat and bow tie, smiles straight at the camera as fans swarm around him. This is the second of these photos that Lelands has auctioned. The first was sold in our November 2007 auction (lot #767) at a record price of $26,348. This photo (the same image) is in similar condition, and is a vintage print from the early 1920's. The contrast and focus are well above average and the condition of the image appears NRMT on the front. The back has some glue residue and "37" written twice in black marker. Part of a torn paper caption reads "Babe Ruth at Syracuse". Vintage purple stamp at the bottom, "The Christy Walsh Syndicate, 17 East 42nd St., New York". Photo itself measures 7.5x9.25", and has been matted to 8x10".
