Babe Ruth Buys His 500th Home Run Baseball for $20 (Gehrig Innocent)

Babe Ruth Buys His 500th Home Run Baseball for $20 (Gehrig Innocent)

Masterful shot of the home run twins with great memorabilia content. Ruth is holding the ball he hit for #500 which Larrupin' Lou rests his arm on his shoulder. This classic wire photo shows amazing detail and contrast, and even sports the original paper caption on the verso. By Pacific and Atlantic Photo Bureau, it dates from 1929. Caption reveals that in order to get the ball back, Ruth had to give the kid who caught it $20 (deal of the century) and a Ruth signed baseball (makes it a little better). Ruth plans to dip the ball in gold leaf when he returns to New York (he should dip that kid in gold leaf). Measures about 7x9". Professionally repaired tear and a crease, o/w EX-MT.
