Baseball From 1,000th Win As A Manager

Baseball From 1,000th Win As A Manager

In over 140 years of major league baseball, only 59 managers ever earned 1,000 wins. One of those was Red Schoendienst, who compiled an exceptional 1,041-955 record in his 14 years at the helm of the St. Louis Cardinals, capped off by the 1967 World Series championship over the Boston Red Sox. Offered here is an official National League (Feeney) baseball commemorating the milestone, hand-lettered in red and black ink and presented to Red after the game. It reads: "VICTORY #1000 RED SCHOENDIENST AS MANAGER OF THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS GAME PLAYED AT BUSCH STADIUM AGAINST NEW YORK METS SEPT 12, 1976." There's also a hand-written linescore and list of pitchers used in the game. The ball shows use and is in EX-MT condition. For the record, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is primed to be the 60th manager in the 1,000-win club as he has 998 victories heading into next season.
