Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Fenway Park 1976 - Green Monster
Presented is a 3x5x0.75" wooden piece of the Fenway Park "Green Monster" left field wall. On top of the aforementioned piece of wood is an approx. 2.5x4.5" piece of see-through plastic. On this plastic piece is printed the Red Sox logo and "Boston Red Sox/"JIMMY" FUND/FENWAY PARK 1076 - "GREEN MONSTER" AUTHENTIC PIECE OF THE OLD LEFT FIELD WALL." The left field wall at Fenway Park was a part of the stadium's original 1912 construction. It is 37 feet, 2 inches high, and it is approx. 300-310 feet from home plate. Famous Red Sox left fielders such as Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice learned to accurately play the caroms off the wall and throw out baserunners. Until 1947, it usually was used to display advertisements. In '47 it was painted green, and it later became known as "The Green Monster." Originally sold by the "Jimmy Fund,' a famous charitable organization for sick children. The Green Monster offered block of wood exhibits some crinkling, small tears, and minor paper loss in the visible green paper that is under the clear plastic front covering. Otherwise, the souvenir is in excellent condition. Originally sold by the Jimmy Fund, these items have dried up and are now very rare. This a highly collectible piece of Red Sox lore.
