A wide-ranging collection of memorabilia once belonging to 1941 Heisman Trophy winner Bruce Smith, recognized for his achievements as halfback with the University of Minnesota “Golden” Gophers. History records that his Heisman presentation was held on December 9, 1941, only two days after Pearl Harbor, and was interrupted by air raid sirens after an American squadron was mistaken for German bombers. This fascinating assortment includes items in several categories: Paper ephemera, including early pencil drawings and cartoons, 6 items; early signature; photograph of Minnesota Gophers teammates, 8 X 10, ten signatures, but lacking signature of Bruce Smith; 1942 Screen Actors Guild Membership card, signed; 1942 Columbia Pictures Employee ID card, signed; 1941 Great Northern Railway Menu, signed by team inside and by Bruce Smith on cover.
