Through this turnstile came some of the most rabid and loyal fans in all of sports. Cardinals fans are regarded as arguably the best of the breed, always supportive and almost never nasty. Thus, the turnstile in narrow terms is something of a tribute to the fans that have been the foundation of the franchise. It is also perhaps the only fixture that hasn’t changed in ballparks in a century and a half. Green metal turnstile has 43 signatures (all NRMT) by the players and coaches in silver paint pen, some with their uniform numbers. All the big names are here: Pujols, Walker, Edmonds, Rolen, Schoendienst, Eckstein etc. It stands 24” including the three revolving flywheel handles and 38.5” tall. Three horizontal silver stripes on front end and a metal top compartment piece. Metal grab handle on the opposite end of the metallic, ridged walk-through area. Decal on it reads “Perrey, New York.” Each handle has a covering reading “St. Louis Post-Dispatch,” adding even more of an attachment to team and town. As you would expect, turnstile has plenty of scratching, rusting and other markers of the elements and no doubt the wearing caused by thousands of overeager feet trouncing through it to catch the first pitch of Gibson through Carpenter. And every scratch probably has a story to it. (Estimate $1,000 - $2,000)
