Circa 1923 Oscar Roettger New York Yankees Game Worn Cap

Circa 1923 Oscar Roettger New York Yankees Game Worn Cap

Pitcher-turned-outfielder Oscar Roettger only played six games with the Yankees between 1923 and 1924, which is probably the reason why this Spalding cap he wore is in such terrific condition. Originally obtained from the Roettger estate, this great piece of Yankees history is about as early as it comes, and from the opening year of Yankee Stadium no less, when Roettger was a teammate of original Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Roettger closed five games for the Yankees (one save) and pitched a total of 11.2 innings while going 0-2 at the plate.
