Circa 1934 Japanese Baseball Silk Kimono

Circa 1934 Japanese Baseball Silk Kimono

This absolutely gorgeous men's silk kimono was recently brought back from Japan. The fabulous all-baseball pattern was obviously influenced by Babe Ruth and the U.S. All Stars' 1934 Tour of Japan. The beautific art-deco pattern is completely original to this piece, which is the only baseball kimono we have seen. The silk is like new, beautifully preserved, marvelously aged with only some pulling to some of the threads. The pattern is of stadiums, the Waseda team (the first Japan team to come to the U.S.), and trying to replicate words in English...badly. This is a killer piece that we had to fight to get. Fully lined, and double-sided.
