Signed circa 1937, just two years after his retirement, Ruth continued to be a titan of the sport at the time despite being unable to secure the managerial position he coveted, though he would be hired as first-base coach for the Brooklyn Dodgers one year later. Ruth's exploits on the field are known far and wide, by fans and casual observers alike. Even almost 70 years after his death, he is one of the most well known athletes in all of sports, said in the same breath as more contemporary immortals such as Jordan and Gretzky. The ball, like Ruth's career, is exemplary. PSA gave the signature and ball a grade of 7, but overall 7.5 with a bonus .5 for eye appeal. It was obtained by the consignor's grandfather, who has generously included an audio tape of how his grandfather met the Babe, and comes with an original box with a small part detached. Given Ruth's iconic place among sports memorabilia and even pop culture, the ball is sure to be a staple of any serious collection. Comes with PSA LOA, graded a 7.5 overall.
