Circa 1940s Bob Hope by U.S. Signal Corps Photo (PSA Type I)

Circa 1940s Bob Hope by U.S. Signal Corps Photo (PSA Type I)

Bob Hope was an enormously popular comedian and actor who had an almost 80-year entertainment career. Presented is an 8x10" black and white Type I photo of Hope, taken by the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II during the 1940s, most likely when he was on a USO tour. Hope was born in London County, England, in 1903 and came to the United States when he was four years old. Hope was a vaudevillian who became a star on the stage and in radio, television, and movies. Hope was a part of an incredible 57 USO tours that stretched over fifty years. Hope made USO tours during World War II, and continued to tour during the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and in later U.S. conflicts. Many persons do not know that Hope was once a professional boxer, with a 3-1 career record. Hope enjoyed sports and held a minor stake in the Cleveland Indians and a share, with Bing Crosby, of the Los Angeles Rams. The photo comes with a PSA/DNA LOA which certifies the Type I photo as AUTHENTIC and provides an attached certification number. Hope's prodigious efforts to entertain U.S. troops resulted in Congress in 1997 declaring Hope an "Honorary Veteran." The photo makes a nice remembrance of a beloved friend to United States troops.
