Depeche Mode "Violator" Double Platinum Record Sales Award

Displayed is a wonderful keepsake for music fans, the Double Platinum Record Sales Award for the break-out hit album that put Depeche Mode on the world map, an award that was presented to iconic record promoter Andrew Govatsos. Having promoted over 300 concerts, Govatsos has worked with Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Green Day, Eric Clapton, Stevie Nicks, Michael Bublé, and Alanis Morissette, among numerous others. Depeche Mode is an English electronic band that was formed in 1980. The original members were Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Flecher, and Vince Clarke. The band's debut album, Speak & Spell, was released in 1981. The band's last two albums released in the 1980s solidly established Depeche Mode as one of the main forces in electronic music. In June 1988, the group's concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl drew over 60,000 people. In the early part of 1990, Depeche Mode released Violator, an album that became a mainstream international hit. In 1989, Depeche Mode recorded "Personal Jesus" as a single, and ads were placed in the personals section of many regional English newspapers, with the words "Your own personal Jesus". Later, a phone number was added to the advertisements and those calling the number heard a recording of "Personal Jesus." This created an uproar that pushed the single to Number 13 on the UK charts. In 1990, Depeche Mode released the album Violator, and this release included Personal Jesus and two more hits: "Policy of Truth" and "World in my Eyes." The resulting World Violation Tour attracted an estimated 1.2 million fans. The offered display is attractively framed and matted at 17 x 20.75". It includes the platinum hued Violator record, with a diameter of approx. 11.5". Also in the display is a replica cassette at 2.5x4", also platinum hued, and it reads, "MULTI-PLATINUM SALES AWARD." In the top corners of the display are two 2.5" square images of the Violator album, one image is titled "1 Million" and the second image is titled "2 Million." At the foot of the display is a 3x7.75" plaque that reads" PRESENTED TO ANDREW GOVATOS TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN 2,000,000 COPIES OF THE SIRE RECORDS ALBUM, CASSETTE, AND C.D. "VIOLATOR." This Double-Platinum Record Award will be a valued eye-catching addition to any collecting assemblage.
