Dewey Defeats Truman Newspaper

Dewey Defeats Truman Newspaper

With perhaps the most famously incorrect banner headline in the history of American journalism, this November 3, 1948 issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune loudly proclaims "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" from its front page. This is a complete copy of the newspaper that jumped the gun in calling the outcome of the 1948 United States presidential election and wound up getting it wrong. Beautifully matted and framed to a finished size of 29 1/2x31 1/2", the piece also includes the famous photograph of President Harry S. Truman holding up the errant headline as he smiles broadly. A great conversation piece, and a reminder that news coverage wasn't always 24/7 as it is today.
